About The Course
Introduction to Law, an 8-week course by Prof. Satya Prasoon (NALSAR, Hyderabad) is aimed at school students who want to be informed citizens with an empowered understanding of law. The aim is to provide accessible yet serious legal knowledge around concepts and practical applications pertaining to key branches in law. Students enrolling for the course will benefit by acquiring knowledge and developing the skillset for application about Constitutional history, Constitutional law, Criminal law, Contract Law, Law of Tort and new areas like Cyber law. The course is designed for students to not only know the law but also apply the law. For this, the course is designed to equip the students to apply laws to hypothetical situations and factuals.

Professor, NALSAR Hyderabad
Mr. Satya Prasoon is an Assistant Professor of Law at NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad. He is the course instructor for Constitutional Law and offers electives around Constitutional Identity, and Religious Freedom for Minority Religions and Religious Denominations. He has done his B.A. LL.B (Hons.) from West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata and his LL.M from University of Melbourne in Australia. He was awarded the Alex Chernov scholarship for his LL.M. His research and writing focuses on Constitutional Identity, Anti-Discrimination law, Interpretation of Statutes, Religious Freedom and Affective Constitutionalism.

- History of the Constitution Making in India
- Structure of the Indian Constitution- Federalism & Separation of Powers
- Citizens, State and the Constitution – Fundamental Rights, Directive Principles and Fundamental Duties
Week 3: Courts, Citizens and the Constitution: Fundamental Rights
- Kind of rights given to citizens, individuals and social & religious groups.
- Why does any law cannot violate fundamental rights given in the Constitution?
Week 4: Introduction to Criminal Law – Crimes & Legal Defenses
- How is criminal law different from civil law
- Legal Glossary in Criminal Law explained
- Ingredients of a crime – mens rea and actus reus
- Legal Defenses - Insanity, Involuntary Intoxication, Age, Self-Defense
Week 5: Introduction to Private Law: Contracts & Torts
- Concepts of Contract Law will be explained.
- Nature and Legal Remedy under Tort Law will be explained
Week 6: Applications
- New Areas in Law - Intellectual Property Law, Environmental Law, Arbitration Law, Technology Law
- The new areas of law will be discussed.
Week 7: Courtroom, procedures
- Revision of Substantive Concepts in Law
Week 8: Revision, CLAT
- Preparation for CLAT – Skills and Basics
Live Sessions: Weekly live interactive sessions on Saturdays
Course Eligibity
Students from partnered schools in any stream of Class X, XI and XII
Assessment Layout
Assignments: The course includes the release of 4 bi-weekly online assignments (every alternate week). Students need to attempt at least 3 of these assignments and must achieve a minimum score of 40 marks in each to be eligible for the certificate.
Take-Home Project: An optional project consisting of questions that cover all the topics from the theory videos, accompanied by a small project report.
Final Exam: An optional online final exam designed to assess the knowledge gained throughout the course, which can only be attempted after completing and submitting the required assignments and the take-home project.

To receive this participation certificate, a student must pass 3 out of 4 assignments with an average score of at least 40 marks.Completion Certificate - Check Sample Certificate
To receive this completion certificate, a student must fulfill the following criteria:
- A student must pass 3 out of 4 assignments with an average score of at least 40 marks.
- Submission of the take-home project is mandatory for the student.
- Once the above two conditions are satisfied, the student should attempt the final exam and must receive a minimum score of 40 marks.
